Reviewing Direction
No build for this one, and I just noticed I never published the last one!
Anyway, work continues on the game. Shortly after the last build I did a dev lunch with some other devs and two were discussing one's next project. It made me realise that there is a genre that I had missed (shop management) that has relevance to Dungeon Craver. Since there is a few systems I keep fighting with I thought I would see what others have done, and if there may be things I hadn't thought of yet. So mostly the last month and a half has been split between playing various shop management games, taking oodles of notes and trying out ideas in a python prototype to help me think about how much of the game flows.
I have had a handful of insights either for things I never even though about, or just possible alternatives for how to approach some of the gameplay. I am still distilling all though (and have a few remaining stragglers to go through) so it will be a bit before another build of the game, especially since the next month and a bit is very busy.
If you are curious, my favourite ones I have played are Moonlighter and Potion Craft. The latter I really like the novel way to take ingredients to get a potion with an effect that feels like experimentation and avoids linear recipes.
